We have already explained in the previous blog post
what a PechaKucha presentation stands for and what it should look like. Yesterday
in class the first expositions were performed with different results for all of
them. We could take out some conclusions about our partner’s work.
First of all about the format, it was not necessary to
be an only image presentation if not that some text could be included. The
perfect combination of both pictures and text is what makes a point between a
normal presentation or a fantastic one. Some of us just put images while others
typed too much. Another key factor related with the PPT format we could see is
that it does not look very serious to have a different format from one slide to
the other. It was seen in some teams that divided the work and then just paste
it but every style was different.
On the other hand, we noticed that most of us had fear
to eye contact. Just a few kept it. I believe it is due to lack of practise and
also too much nervousness. The same reason led to no body language in most of
the people so they just kept their hands in the pocket or the opposite, they
moved too much. It also led to get confused a few times, forget some
information and do not match each slide with the 20 seconds established by
PechaKucha. A recommendation given is to bring with you a paper where the main
points appear so that when forgetting something you can instantly remember by a
simple glance at it. However, we cannot see at it too much because we would
lose eye contact and it will seem as we do not know what we are talking about,
we are just reading.
Finally, I realized the only way to improve every
mistake we did is to practice once and once again. Some of us are shier than
others, it can take to some more or less time but at the end it is something we
can all achieve. Once we all get used to talk to the hole class, nervousness
will start to disappear so the perform will be better.
